Thompson Goes to Victory Lane at Casa Grande

After more than his fair share of tough luck to start the year, Cody Thompson got things pointed in the right direction on Saturday evening with his first feature win of the 2022 season. His maiden trip to the Winner’s Circle came at Central Arizona Speedway (Casa Grande, Ariz.) in the second round of the AutoNation Crate by Klein Engines IMCA Modified action.

In a field of 20 IMCA Modified entries, Cody advanced two positions to finish second in his heat race, which positioned him ninth on the starting grid for the night’s 25-lap feature.

As the finale went green, Thompson began marching his way through the field before ultimately taking the lead on the 11th circuit. Once out front he cruised to a dominant 3.707-second victory. Zachary Madrid, Matt Aukland, Sean Stacy, and Kelsie Foley completed the Top-5 finishers.

One night earlier his luck wouldn’t be as good as he retired early in the feature and was credited with a 19th-place finish.
