Thompson Retires Early at Marshalltown; Wins at Worthington

Friday night action brought Cody Thompson to Marshalltown Speedway, where he squared off against a field of 35 IMCA Modified competitors in the opening round of the 16th annual World Nationals.

A fourth-to-second run in his heat race earned Cody the fifth-starting spot for the 30-lap feature. He ran inside the Top 10 until lap 15, when he retired from the $2,000-to-win affair.

Thompson was credited with a 21st-place finish.

Cody returned to the driver's seat on Sunday night at Worthington (Minn.) Speedway. Fifteen racers entered the event, and Thompson advanced from third-to-second in his heat race to lock into the sixth-starting spot for the feature.

Cody worked his spot to the lead by the third circuit and ran at the front of the pack throughout the remainder of the event. He briefly surrendered the lead on the 17th circuit before charging back to the top spot and going on to win his 12th race of the season.

He was followed across the finish line by Kelly Shryock, Brandon Beckendorf, Cole Bents, and Benjamin Chukuske.
