Thompson Conquers Cornhusker Classic
Cody Thompson conquered the Speedway Motors Conrhusker Classic over the weekend at Nebraska's I-80 Speedway.
On Thursday evening, 50 Modified drivers converged on the 1/2-mile oval. After finishing fourth in his heat race, Cody passed 10 cars in the feature to finish fifth. Additionally, he earned a starting spot in the Dash for Cash, where he finished fourth behind Tom Berry Jr., Jacob Hobscheidt, and Terry Phillips.
On Friday evening, a stout field of 58 Modified entries registered for battle. With double heats on tap Cody raced from seventh-to-second in his first heat race, and then advanced from third-to-second in the second heat race.
His cumulative point total from the duel heat race performances lined him up fourth on the grid for Saturday night's finale. Charging to the lead on the 31st circuit, Thompson never looked back on his way to his 16th win of the year, which was worth $5,300.
He was followed across the finish line by Jordan Grabouski, Dylan Sherfick, Ryan Jenkins, an Jesse Dennis.
