Thompson Travels to 81 Speedway for Ed Gressel Memorial

Cody Thompson traveled to 81 Speedway (Wichita, Kan.) for the inaugural Ed Gressel Memorial over the weekend.

On Thursday evening 53 Summit Equipment United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) racers entered the program. The night wouldn't go as Cody hoped as his outing drew to an early end in B-Main competition.

On Friday night he once again found himself in a B-Main, but an impressive 20th-to-fifth charge in the consolation event transferred Thompson to the main event in the 22nd-starting spot. He went on to finish 24th in the 35-lap, $5,000-to-win feature.

The tripleheader drew to a close on Saturday night with a $10,000-to-win event. A fifth-place finish in his B-Main promoted Cody to the 50-lap finale. Unfortunately, mechanical issues knocked him out on the 27th circuit, while running in the 19th position. He was credited with a 27th-place finish.
