Cody Thompson takes on Clay County Classic
On Sunday and Monday, Cody Thopmson raced at Spencer, Iowa’s Clay County Fair Speedway in a pair of IMCA Modified shows. He turned in a best finish of seventh in the Clay County Classic at the 3/8-mile oval.
In the Sunday opener, Thompson was among 19 Modified competitors at the track looking for the $1,000 first-place payout. He finished second in his heat race aboard his Excel Floor Covering No. 25c machine, then started fifth in the 20-lap feature. He felt too on top of the track in the race and came home seventh.
On Monday, with 23 Modifieds on the property, Thompson and his team made some changes and felt they improved the car as they sought the $2,000 winner’s share. Thompson took fifth in his heat and started 13th in the 20-lap A-Main. Ultimately, the track was one lane around the cushion, and Thompson could only move ahead two spots in the main event, finishing 11th.
