Thompson takes Dave Riley Memorial victory
A strong July continued for Cody Thompson on Sunday when he triumphed in the IMCA Modified portion of the fourth annual Dave Riley Memorial Race at North Sioux City, South Dakota’s Park Jefferson Speedway.
With 14 Modifieds at the quarter-mile track, Thompson began his evening by starting third and finishing as runner-up in the second of two heat races aboard his Team Harris Auto Racing No. 25c ride.
He rolled off eighth in the 22-lap, $1,056-to-win feature and claimed the lead on the 14th circuit. He showed the way for the remainder of the race and took his sixth feature win of the year just 0.358 seconds ahead of Chris Abelson. Shane DeMey finished third, Bob Moore took fourth and Jim Cole came home fifth.
