Thompson earns Park Jefferson Modified victory
Continuing his strong summer, Cody Thompson picked up his eighth feature victory of the season in Friday’s Bill Kirk Memorial at Park Jefferson Speedway in North Sioux City, South Dakota.
Thompson drove his Team Harris Auto Racing No. 25c in the 13-car North Ridge Excavating Modified class at the quarter-mile oval, opening his night with a fourth-place result in his heat race. He rolled off from the fourth spot to start the 20-lap feature and grabbed the lead on the 15th circuit. He led the final six laps of the race and took the checkered flag 2.500 seconds ahead of Izac Mallicoat. Chris Abelson, R.J. Merchant and Ricky Stephan completed the top five.
Thompson also competed in the 29-car Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series program at Park Jeff on Friday. He qualified the No. 7 Super Late Model with the seventh-quickest time in his group, finished seventh in his heat, and took ninth in the B-Main. He started 23rd in the 30-lap, $5,086-to-win main event and climbed 11 spots to come home 12th.
