Solid IMCA Super Nationals results for Thompson across multiple classes
From Monday through Saturday, Cody Thompson raced three different types of cars in the prestigious Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals at Boone (Iowa) Speedway. Throughout the week, he showed speed in an IMCA Late Model, Modified and Stock Car at the 1/3-mile oval.
On Monday, Thompson piloted the No. 7c Late Model in a 39-car field. He drove from ninth to fifth in his heat race, then took the checkered flag in his B-Main after starting fourth. He began the 50-lap, $3,000-to-win feature from the 14th position and charged to a third-place result, rounding out the podium behind Jesse Sobbing and Zach Zeitner. C.J. Horn was fourth and Logan Veloz was fifth.
After sitting idle on Tuesday, Thompson returned to the track on Wednesday in both his Team Harris Auto Racing No. 25c Modified and the No. 88c Stock Car. A total of 243 entries were in the Modified program, while the Stock Car class attracted 287 participants.
In his Modified, Thompson started on the pole in his heat race on Wednesday but suffered a DNF and did not compete in a 25-lap feature. Thursday saw Thompson grab the win in his heat, then start fourth and finish ninth in a 25-lap A-Main. He also turned in the second-quickest qualifying time in his group in advance of the following night’s All-Star Invitational.
On Friday, Thompson charged from 10th to second in his Modified heat race. He started 16th in one of the 25-lap features but turned in a 29th-place result with a DNF. He also started 10th and finished ninth in the 30-lap All-Star Invitational Race.
The event wrapped up on Saturday with Thompson taking third in his Modified heat and 14th in the Last Chance A Feature 3, ending his week before the 40-lap, $10,000-to-win Big Dance.
In the Stock Car, Thompson started strong on Wednesday with a heat-race win. He then both started and finished ninth in his 25-lap feature. He again won his heat the next night, putting him fifth to begin his 25-lap A-Main. He came home sixth.
On Friday, Thompson was fourth in his Stock Car heat and turned in an eighth-to-third run in his B-Main, bringing the curtain down on his evening before a 25-lap feature race.
In Saturday’s Stock Car program, Thompson won his Last Chance Race and finished sixth in his B-Main, coming up shy of a transfer spot into the 30-lap, $7,500-to-win Big Dance.
