Cody Thompson
Buena Vista victory for Thompson
During the first week of July, Cody Thompson picked up his fifth feature win of the year with a triumph in the Midwest Madness Tour stop at Buena Vista Raceway.
On Wednesday evening, Thompson was among 19 IMCA Modified competitors at the 3/8-mile track in Alta, Iowa, seeking the division’s $1,000 winner’s share. He drove his Tri-State Coatings No. 25c Modified to third in his heat race and rolled off from the second spot to begin the 25-lap A-Main. He took the checkered flag ahead of Dakota Sproul, Chaz Baca, Ricky Stephan and Jess Rogotzke.
Thompson’s racing slate began the previous Saturday when he raced in the 19-car Modified class at Corning, Iowa’s Adams County Speedway as part of the fourth Hampel Memorial. He finished second in his heat race on the half-mile oval and redrew the second position to begin the $2,225-to-win A-Main. He was unable to complete the race and recorded a 19th-place result.
After two days away from the track, Thompson joined the Midwest Madness Tour and competed in a 26-car IMCA Modified field at Park Jefferson Speedway in North Sioux City, South Dakota, on Tuesday. He climbed from eighth to third in his heat race on the half-mile oval, positioning him seventh to start the $1,000-to-win main event. He recorded a 16th-place result in the 30-lapper with a DNF.
Thompson then won at Buena Vista Raceway the following evening.
