Thompson scores top-10 results at Shelby County Speedway
Cody Thompson raced in both the IMCA Late Model and Modified divisions at Harlan, Iowa’s Shelby County Speedway over the weekend as part of the Tiny Lund Memorial. He left the 1/3-mile oval with a trio of top-10 finishes.
On Friday, the 33rd annual event got underway with 24 Late Models in the pits. Thompson steered his Premier Industries No. 7 car to fifth in his heat race and began the feature from the 15th position. He climbed nine spots and finished sixth in the 20-lapper.
Saturday’s IMCA Late Model finale saw Thompson take the checkered flag in his heat after starting fifth. He began the 30-lap $2,000-to-win A-Main from the second position and led four laps early before turning in a seventh-place result.
Thompson also competed in the 32-car Modified division on Saturday. He drove his Tri-State Coatings No. 25c machine to the runner-up result in his heat race, then started the $2,000-to-win feature from the pole. He led the first circuit of the 25-lap main event and ultimately finished third, rounding out the podium behind Justin Zeitner and Chris Abelson. Austin Svoboda and Shawn Harker finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
