Thompson charges to quartet of top-10 finishes in Charlie Clark Memorial

Park Jefferson Speedway completed its 2025 season on Friday and Saturday with the Charlie Clark Memorial Weekend Classic. Cody Thompson raced in three divisions during the event at the quarter-mile track in North Sioux City, South Dakota, scoring a best finish of second.

In the 39-car IMCA Modified division, Thompson campaigned his Xtreme Lubricants No. 25c machine. On Friday evening, he drove from seventh to second in his heat race on the quarter-mile track, starting him third in the 22-lap, $1,000-to-win feature. He led from laps four through 21 before settling for the runner-up spot, 0.432 seconds behind winner Izac Mallicoat. R.J. Merchant, Josh Most and Troy Morris III completed the top five.

On Saturday, Thompson took seventh in his heat and second in his B-Main, putting him 20th to begin the $5,022-to-win finale. He rocketed forward 16 positions in the 44-lapper to finish fourth behind Tim Ward, Tripp Gaylor and Cody Laney. Fifth place went to Matthew Looft.

Thompson also raced among nearly 60 cars in the Sport Mod/B-Mod division at Park Jefferson and had similarly strong results in the Premier Industries/North Ridge Excavating No. 7.

After failing to transfer through his Friday heat race, Thompson raced from ninth to take the checkered flag in his Sport Mod B-Feature. He started 15th in the 20-lap, $800-to-win A-Main and brought home a fifth-place finish. He came home behind Matt Avila, Chris Abelson, Gabriel Deschamp and Brock Hess.

The next day, Thompson was fifth in his heat, then grabbed the third and final transfer spot in his B-Main. He started 21st in the 22-lap, $1,222-to-win feature and zipped ahead 15 spots to finish sixth.

In Saturday’s 15-car Tri-State Dirt Late Model Series program, Thompson piloted the XR1 No. 76 ride. He grabbed third in his heat but did not start the 25-lap, $1,522-to-win main event due to an oil leak.
